PPS is Here to Help

Portsmouth Public Schools has launched a new program aimed at improving mental health among students and staff.

For students who are feeling overwhelmed, school counselors are always available – even when school is in a virtual setting. Students or family members can call their school administration to schedule a time to speak directly with their school counselor. If needed, school psychologists can also meet with students.

For staff members, the division continues to offer its Employee Assistance Program free of charge to employees. Staff can confidentially reach trained professionals who can provide counseling support as well as key techniques to help handle stresses in the workplace. To contact EAP, call 1-800-899-8174 or visit OptimaEAP.com to get started. If prompted, the user name is PPS. You can learn more about EAP with these brochures: What to Expect When You Contact EAP, Virtual Counseling, Optima EAP Overview.

If you, or anyone you know, is struggling with depression and considering thoughts of suicide, National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-800-273-8255
